What the Royal Doulton is to Collectors

Many people collect things, from stamps and coins to cars and antiques. Collecting is a hobby enjoyed by a countless number of people. One specific thing that people collect is pottery art. The Royal Doulton has made collectible art pottery for over a century. There are many things that make the Royal Doulton stand out. Three of these things are its history, bunnykins and kingsware.

The Doulton Company, the original name of the Royal Doulton was formed in 1815. The company changed its name after it was recognized by King Edward VII. In the 1880′s, the Royal Doulton created its first art pottery at Lambert outside London. One name that stands out from the history of the Royal Doulton is Charles Noke. Charles Noke created many of the early figurines and character studies that the company sold. He later became the art director and is labelled as one of the most prolific artists of the Royal Doulton. The Royal Doulton has made thousands of figurines including characters from the author Beatrix Potter, bunnykins, kingsware, and a Walt Disney collection.

Kingsware is one of the most famous art pottery collections from the Royal Doulton. Kingsware was created by Charles Noke from 1898 to 1939. It is made with a color strip on the inside with artwork on it and a dark slip on the inside to give the pottery its form. Kingsware is characterized by its numerous and memorable characters. The collection includes cups, jars, jugs, and miniatures to name a few. This is one of the most interesting collections.

Bunnykins is another one of the famous art pottery collections from the Royal Doulton. Bunnykins were initially created by Sister Mary Barbara in 1934. They are bases on a family of eight rabbits from “Little Twitching”, which is a small village. Bunnykins depict the adventures and characters of those rabbits. Many artists have made bunnykins for the Royal Doulton over the years. Bunnykins are known for thier high level of detail. Collectors collect bunnykins jewelry and figurines. In conclusion, it is clear to see that from the Royal Doulton’s history and figurines that it stands out to collectors.
